Patricia Kietzke - In Memorium

On Friday January 28th, 2022, Patricia Kietzke passed away peacefully at the age of 87, in Chula Vista, California surrounded by her family. Patricia was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church, and community. She was a loving wife, mother & grandmother, who enjoyed music, singing, reading, art, and craftwork; such as knitting, crocheting and sewing. She was the matriarch of the Kietzke family, and one of the founders of Professional Plastics, Inc.

Born August 1st, 1934 in Guthrie, Oklahoma, Patricia (Ellsberry) Kietzke was a quiet, child prodigy with a gift for art, music, and literature. At the age of 12, her family moved to South Gate, California, where she excelled in school and was active in the church. This is where she eventually met and fell in love with Larry Kietzke. Patricia graduated from South Gate High School in 1952, and the couple was married at South Gate Church of the Nazarene in October 1954. Over the next 67 years of marriage, she and Larry would raise six children, and achieve amazing things together.

Unfortunately in 1978, at the age of 43, Patricia lost her eyesight. Despite her blindness, she was determined to press on. She began taking classes at the Braille Institute in downtown Los Angeles where she learned braille, quilting, computer skills, and how to navigate the metro bus system. Patricia held many occupations over the years, including bank teller, bookkeeper, piano teacher, and church secretary. In 1984, she began operating Professional Plastics' computer systems, and assisted with the financial accounting, despite being completely blind.

First, and foremost, Patricia was a mother and a homemaker. She was an excellent cook who baked home-made bread & pies, and made delicious home-made ice cream. She also participated in the school PTA, and taught poetry to elementary school children. She sang in various church choirs, and was a soloist, who sang at hundreds of services over the years. In her 60's, she even ran her own clothing store, often working by herself, and dealing with walk-in customers. Up to the time of her passing, Patricia continued to knit, crochet, and sew various items for new mothers, orphanages, family and friends. She had an optimistic attitude towards every challenge she faced, and was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Over the years, Larry served as her eyes to the world, and her guide through life. The couple loved to travel and experience different languages and cultures. They spent a decade in Mexico, where they founded a church, and made many friends. They travelled to dozens of countries around the world, and especially enjoyed cruises and visits to Hawaii.

Patricia is survived by her husband Larry, their six adult children and their spouses, as well as 20 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
