Overview of High Frequency Materials - UHF & RF

— The radio spectrum of the electromagnetic scale runs from ULF (Ultra Low Frequency) up the EHF (Extremely High Frequency). The higher end of this range is known as the Microwave Range which runs 100 MHz up to 100 GHz. The start of the microwave range begins with ISM bands from 315 to to 915 MHz, and continues to ISM bands up to the 2.4 GHz ISM band. Next is the UWB range which runs from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz. Frequencies above this range are considered EHF which pushes beyond the microwave range and into 4G cellular bands from 56 GHz to 100 GHz.
  • VHF = Very High Frequency
  • UHF = Ultra Frequency
  • SHF = Super High Frequency
  • EHF = Extremely High Frequency

    RF Communication Systems:
Simplex RF System - A radio technology that allows only one-way communication from a transmitter to a receiver. - Examples: FM radio, Pagers, TV, One-way AMR systems
Half-duplex RF Systems - Operation mode of a radio communication system in which each end can transmit and receive, but not simultaneously. - Examples: Walkie-talkie, wireless keyboard mouse
Full-duplex RF Systems - Radio systems in which each end can transmit and receive simultaneously. - Example: Cellular phones, satellite communication
